Albemarle’s boys and girls swim and dive teams put together a pair of strong performances Saturday in a loaded Class 5 state swim meet in Fairfax Saturday.
The Patriots’ boys took ninth overall while the girls finished 10th as a team.
Albemarle’s boys got a strong day from Walker Davis, who took fourth in the 100-back and seventh in the 100-free. Davis also swam legs on the 400-free relay that took seventh and the 200-medley relay that took seventh as well. John Hornsby, Charlie Cross and Lucas Smith rounded out the 200-medley relay while Hornsby, Cross and Victor Valovalo joined Davis on the 400-free relay.
Valovalo took sixth in the 50-free and 10th in the 100-free while also swimming on the seventh place 400-free squad and the 15th-place 200-free relay.
Charlie Cross scored on the 200 medley and 400-free relays while also taking 16th in the 200 IM. Jake Harogensis was 15th in the 500-free and Ryan Katstra took 16th in the 500-free.
Albemarle’s girls 10h place finish got a similar boost from the relay squads, with the 400-free relay of Maddie Wells, Avery Huang, Claire Moody and Rachel Murray taking seventh while Moody, Huang, Murray and Sophia Yu took eighth in the 200-medley relay.
The Patriots 200-free relay took 12th to round out their relay scoring.
Moody finished with an eighth in the 100-free and 11th in the 100-back. Huang took 11th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 100 breaststroke. Sophia Yu also scored twice, taking 13th in the 100-fly and 14th in the 100-breast. Murray finished 15th in the 50-free.
