Albemarle field hockey beats Orange

Albemarle’s field hockey team shut out Orange Tuesday night, picking up a solid win to open Jefferson District play.

The Patriots (2-1) got a pair of goals from Courtney Hughlett to lead the way, with Julia Bianchetto and Caroline Jones scoring the other two goals. Hughlett and Bianchetto scored the two opening goals in the first half to spark the Patriots to a 2-0 lead. Then after Hughlett struck again to make it 3-0, Jones tapped in an Amanda Warlick shot on a corner to push the lead to 4-0. Jones also added an assist and Sydney Snearer also chipped in a helper.

The Patriots’ keepers Morgan Coleman and Olivia Reid finished with four and two saves respectively. Orange’s Riley Clatterbuck had a big night with 11 saves in the cage.

Albemarle faces Monticello Thursday while Orange County travels to take on Louisa.
