Albemarle softball snags two CD wins

The Albemarle softball team finished March on about as strong a note as it could have by picking up a trio of wins before hitting its spring break. The Patriots first disptached cross-county rival Western Albemarle 4-2 before picking up a pair of Commonwealth District wins, a 4-2 victory over Stafford and 4-0 takedown of Mountain View.

Against the Warriors the Patriots had just five hits account for their 4 runs. Lindsay Chaney had a 2-run home run while Alexis Stjelgis provided a 2-run single. Chaney earned the win in the circle as she struck out five batters.

To beat Stafford 4-2 Albemarle came up with a 3-run rally as it trailed by a run in the bottom of the fourth. Collen Marshall and Alaina Peters each had RBI doubles. Caroline Porco and Paige Sheler were each 2 for 3 with an RBI. Chaney picked up her second win of the week as she struck out 10 batters and walked just one and gave up only three hits.

In their final game of March, the Patriots hit the road and shutout the Wildcats 4-0 thanks to a strong start in the first three innings. Porco started the first by reaching first on a walk, then stealing second and eventually home. Collier had a 2-run single in the second. Chaney had a RBI single in the third and also picked up the win. Chaney’s complete game shutout featured 12 strikeouts to no walks and just two walks.

Albemarle (7-2, 4-2) resumes play on April 11th at home against Fluvanna County.
