Ayres’ 32 leads Buckingham past Bluestone

Buckingham County’s Tarian Ayres closed out the regular season in style Friday night for the Knights.

Ayres, a senior guard, poured in 32 points, hauled in 10 rebounds and dished out five assists for a career high scoring night against Bluestone in a 83-68 victory for the Knights.

Ayres shot 56 percent from the field including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and finished 8-for-10 at the free throw line.

He was far from a one-man show though as L.A. Briley distributed his way to a 10-point, 10-assist double double and Cam Johnson poured in 14 points.

Drequan Scott also reached double figures with 11 on the night. Tariq Bartee had nine points and six assists, while committing just a single turnover.

Bluestone jumped out to a 23-19 lead against the Knights in the first quarter, but melted down in the second as Buckingham’s defense held Bluestone to just five points in the frame to take a 41-28 halftime lead.

The Knights are set to take on Central Lunenburg at home Monday night in the James River District quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
