Buckingham blows past Prince Edward

So far, so good.

Buckingham set out to establish a big-time run game this year, and they’ve done exactly that this year, blasting Prince Edward for a 57-0 victory Friday night.

Kyree Koonce and Kenneth Johnson did the heavy lifting, ringing up more than 100 yards each to power the win. Koonce rushed for 110 yards on just six touches, scoring two touchdowns. He also ripped off a 74-yard touchdown return on the game’s opening kickoff.

Johnson totaled 100 yards on eight carries, averaging 12.5 yards per carry with three touchdowns and a 2-point conversion plunge. Johnson made it four total touchdowns with a 41-yard catch for a score from quarterback Cam Johnson. Johnson went 3-for-3  for 55 yards on the night.

John Edwards finished with 43 yards on five carries while Raekwon Gough had 32 yards and a touchdown on four opportunities to round out the bulk of a 287-yard rushing outing for the Buckingham attack. The Knights, as a team, averaged a whopping 9.3 yards per carry while piling up six touchdowns on the night.

Buckingham has now blown out both Appomattox and Prince Edward in back-to-back weeks. They face Fluvanna County Friday in the Battle for the James River Bridge.
