Buckingham rallies past Randolph-Henry

A slow first quarter on the defensive end put Buckingham County in a hole early Tuesday night.

But a fast finish to the fourth made sure it didn’t matter.

Trailing by 11 at the start of the final frame, the Knights ripped off a 21-point quarter to seal a narrow 53-52 over Randolph-Henry on the road.

Four Buckingham players reached double figures, with Tarian Ayres’ double double leading the way. Ayres finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on the night. Cam Johnson put together another big-time effort with 12 points and seven rebounds. L.A. Briley checked in with 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Tariq Bartee rounded out the offensive effort with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. 

Kyree Koonce had four rebounds and three steals.

Cavan Bryant and Bryant Jones had 15 points each for the Statesmen to spark the Randolph-Henry attack.

Buckingham, at 10-2 in the James River and 16-2 overall now gets another shot at unbeaten Amelia Thursday night in Dillwyn.
