Covenant girls lacrosse debuts in 2022 with win over Highland

Covenant’s girls lacrose team had a breakout campaign last season with a youthful roster, and while the Eagles are still young, they’re picking up right where they left off last year, rolling 20-5 over Highland in the squad’s season opener Wednesday.

 

Margaret Ann Graves led the Eagles’ offense with five goals and an assist while also picking up three ground balls. Delaney and Kerrigan Poindexter eaxh scored four goals with Delaney Poindexter also notching an assist while Kerrigan Poindexter hauled in 12 draw controls.

 

A.K. Simpson and Peyton Garber each finished with two goals with Simpson also dishing out two assists. Cara Hamil, Lina Touririne and Jennna Gilliam had a goal each with Hamil Touririne also tallying an assist each. Loreley Kincel also had an assist. Simpson and Delaney Poindexter each also had three ground balls.

 

Goalie Katy Varaksa made six saves in the cage, stopping 54 percent of the shots she faced.

 

The Eagles travel to take on E.C. Glass Friday at 6:30 p.m.
