Flucos win lightning-delayed contest

It took almost and entire week to complete, but Fluvanna County finally wrapped up a 15-1 win over Orange County and the No.2 seed in the Jefferson District tournament that starts Monday.

The Flucos and Hornets locked up May 14, but the game was postponed due to lightning until Thursday night. By the time the weather hit Orange County, Fluvanna was up 6-1 already in the bottom of the second inning, knocking around Orange pitcher Dillon Wagner a bit in the process.

The game resumed on Thursday and Fluvanna County remained hot at the plate, crossing home six more times in the third inning alone on the strength of seven hits (Christian Hackenberg (two), Ryan Foster, Zach Miller, Tyler Denby, TJ Dudley, Sam Turner) and six RBIs (Denby, Hunter Shepherd, Dudley (two), Turner, Hackenberg).  Fluvanna scored three additional times in the fourth behind four hits (Shepherd, Dudley, Kyle Pillow, Foster) and three RBIs (Pillow, Josh Barringer, Foster).

On the mound, Tyler Denby allowed jut three hits while striking out eight Hornets. Orange’s lone run came on a Derek Justice RBI when he knocked in Trey Maupin.

Edit: Changed 12:36 p.m. to correct Dillon Wagner’s name
