Fluvanna boys knock off Western in OT

In a clash between experience and youth, the advantage went to youth as a completely re-tooled Fluvanna County team beat Western Albemarle 49-45 in overtime in Palmyra Friday night.

With Chase Stokes out of the lineup, Western allowed Fluvanna County to hang around throughout the night and it eventually cost the Warriors, who were previously unbeaten in Jefferson District play. A particularly dismal fourth quarter by Western where the Warriors managed just seven points helped put the game in overtime and gave Fluvanna a chance to pick up a huge upset in overtime.

Junior Talavious Hughes and senior Goodience Flannigan co-led the Flucos with 13 points each, with Flannigan scoring five of the Flucos’ six points in overtime. Freshman Aamir Simms checked in with 12 points on the night, including a six-for-nine outing at the charity stripe.

Western hit just 14 of 28 free-throws on the night and appeared out of rhythm without Stokes on the floor. Jake Maynard led the Warriors with 12 points while Sam Chisholm finished with 10 points.

The Warriors  will try and bounce back on the road against Powhatan Tuesday while Fluvanna hits the road to take on Charlottesville.
