Fluvanna volleyball rolls past Harrisonburg

Business-like. That’s the best way to describe how Fluvanna County took apart Harrisonburg Wednesday night in the Conference 23 semifinals.

“It’s something they’re focusing on — wanting to stay in the zone,” said coach Christi Harlowe-Garrett. “They’re trying to not get in another team’s game and stay in our game.”

The Flucos rolled 25-10, 25-13 and 25-8 to complete the three-game sweep. Fluvanna wasted little time, dominating from the service line in particular. Getting things going on the serve played a big role in letting the Flucos settle in against the Blue Streaks.

“When it’s working from all angles it allows them to feel more comfortable,” Harlowe-Garrett said.

Maddy Kline, as usual, played a big role in that effort, ripping off nine aces to go with her 10 kills on the night. Kylie Dixon also got in on the mix at the service line with five aces and stepped up at the net too with three blocks. Leslie Walters unleashed seven kills while Katie Stutz set the table for the offense with 18 assists.

Fluvanna wrapped up a second-straight Region 4A North tournament berth with the victory. They’ll face John Handley in the conference title game Thursday night at home.
