Hearl strikes out 15 in Orange softball win over Fluvanna

Orange County softball’s Hannah Hearl was dealing Tuesday night.

The freshman pitcher struck out 15 and allowed just two hits as the Hornets picked up a key road win over Fluvanna County 1-0.

Hearl’s effort helped that one-run lead established before she even stepped in the circle on a Reese Rogers first inning RBI set up by Kennon Burnett’s leadoff double to start the game.

Burnett finished 2-for-4 on the night while Hearl, Mosley and Rogers each had doubles and Raniya Bright hit a triple. The Hornets left six on base during the game.

With Hearl locked in, that was all the offense the Hornets needed, and that’s all Calista Marsh was willing to surrender for the Flucos as she threw her own gem with four strikeouts while scattering five hits and allowing no earned runs while walking just one batter.

The Hornets get a break for a week before hosting Monticello Tuesday while Fluvanna will host Louisa County Thursday night.
