JD baseball round up: Monroe, Monticello and Western all win

Coming off of a 2-1 road win against Manassas Park, William Monroe locked up its first Jefferson District win of the year with an 8-0 win over Charlottesville.

The Dragons had five players combine to throw the seven inning shutout. Offensively, Cody Thacker was 3 for 3 with a double and two runs. Zach Duprey was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Logan Forloines was 2 for 3 as well and had three stolen bases.

Monroe (3-1) heads to Madison County today at 5 p.m.

Charlottesville (1-3) travels to Orange County on Friday at 8 p.m.

Monticello dispatches Orange

The Mustangs got five quality innings from Kyle Jacobson who allowed just four hits and struck out seven Orange County batters in his team’s 4-2 JD opener.

Monticello took a 2-run lead in the top of the first and added two more runs split between the fourth and fifth innings.

The Mustangs (2-2) get a week of rest before playing Monroe on Friday at Charlottesville at 5 p.m.

Orange (1-2) hosts Western on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Western gets first win of the year

Although both teams managed seven hits each, Western Albemarle capitalized on a trio of Fluvanna errors and a solid pitching performance from Parker Morris.

Morris, just a freshman, struck out five batters and issued only one walk in the complete game victory.

Western and Fluvanna were locked up at four runs each going into the fifth, but a Tanner Knight 3-run triple gave the Warriors the lead for good. Tyler Amato, Ryan McCrimmon and Mitchell Parks each had two hits. Amato, Scott Wakely and Logan Ebanks each had an RBI.

Western (1-4) heads to Orange on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Fluvanna (1-4) hosts Louisa County on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
