Madison advances trio of wrestlers to state tournament

Madison County is sending three wrestlers to the state tournament in Salem after Saturday’s Region 2B tournament.

The Mountaineers’ Evan Pack, Joshua Lamb and DaQuan Ravenal all qualified for the state tournament with runner-up finishes Saturday.

At 106 pounds, Pack — a freshman wrestling in his first region tournament — was the region runner-up, getting pinned in the title match. Lamb, also a freshman, fell by pin in the championship at 120 pounds, but notched a 6-2 decision to get there and a 5-0 decision in the wrestle off for second place. Ravenal, just a sophomore, was also pinned in the title match after snagging a pin in the semifinal to advance to the championship.

Hunter Dalas finished third for the Mountaineers at 132 pounds and would’ve advanced to the state tournament in a non-pandemic year, as would fourth place finishers Kris Dobyns at 170 pounds and Jade Scruggs at the heavyweight spot after he took fourth.

The Mountaineers’ young trio will head to Salem in 12 days on February 19.
