William Monroe’s golf team is once again moving on after finishing second in the Conference 28 championships Monday.

The Dragons, who last year qualified for the Group 3A state tournament, are headed to the Region 3A East championship after posting a 333 to finish just two strokes behind conference champion Riverside and five strokes ahead of third-place finisher Brentsville at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club.

Monroe got the job done with its depth behind individual second place finisher Austin Crenshaw’s 76 as Yancey Harrison carded an 81, Mitchell Batten put together a round of 87 and Drew Tate and Miles Lesko each carded 89s to round out the scoring.

The squad’s effort helped them overcome individual conference champion Lance Keiser’s 72 for Brentsville that gave the Tigers a big leg up.

The Dragons will next compete in the Region 3A East tournament with a state tournament berth on the line.
