Monticello baseball shuts out Western

Between Monticello’s Josh Malm and Western Albemarle’s Daniel Kuzjack and Kurt Adcock there were only two hits in the game with each squad getting just one. It just so happened that the Mustangs lone hit of the game came with the bases loaded to pave the way for a 3-0 win over the Warriors.

In the bottom of the third, Tyler Moneymaker cranked a double with the bases loaded to put his team out in front. With Malm dealing, that was all the offense he needed as he fanned eight batters, surrendered just one hit and cruised to a complete game victory.

For Western, Alex DeJong picked up the team’s only hit. The Warriors excelled on defense as catcher Jack Maynard gunned down a trio of Mustangs trying to steal second. Western also picked off another runner at first.

Western (3-6, 3-2 Jefferson District) hosts William Monroe on Monday at 5 p.m.

Monticello (5-3, 4-1) hosts Culpeper at 6 p.m.
