Monticello falls to Wilson Memorial

For the second straight week, a rebuilding Monticello program went on the road and absorbed a loss, with the Mustangs falling this time 39-7 at the hands of Wilson Memorial.

Three turnovers and an inability to convert on third down doomed the Mustangs this time out. Monticello went 0-for-13 on third down conversions and 1-for-5 on fourth down tries.

Wilson’s ground game flourished as Noah Campbell went for 120 yards on just four touches while scoring twice (touchdowns from 51 and 53 yards in the first quarter) and Skyler Whiting picked up 98 yards and two touchdowns on 16 touches.

The Mustangs broke through and scored with 9:02 left when Logan Clark ripped off a 57-yard run for a touchdown. Clark finished with 91 yards on nine total touches.

Ethan Roach threw for 68 yards and went 9-for-22. Miles Frazier led the Mustangs with three catches for 34 yards.

Monticello will try and shake off the first two road trips as they host Turner Ashby Friday night in the Mustangs’ home opener.
