Monticello hockey shuts out Louisa

Monticello’s field hockey team just kept shooting and shooting Tuesday night.

In the process, the Mustangs picked up a 3-0 Jefferson District win at home, unleashing an onslaught of 43 shots against Louisa on the night.

Sarah Hale scored first for the Mustangs off a Caroline Patterson assist in the first half. In the second half, Kathryn Deane and Emily Burger tacked on two more goals to allow Monticello to pull away.

Louisa keeper Kelsey Stanley, in another strong performance, saved 16 of those 43 shots to keep the Lions within striking distance.

Monticello keeper Emily Witzke didn’t face a single shot.

Monticello is set to host Orange County Thursday while the Lions will try and rebound against Albemarle at home.
