Monticello softball shuts out Albemarle

For a long while, Victoria Scott was the only pitcher to long any significant innings in the circle for Monticello High’s softball team. That era is over now, but on Tuesday night, the Mustangs didn’t miss a beat.

With junior Kaitlyn Bodine, last year’s third baseman, moving into the circle, Monticello topped Albemarle 5-0.

Bodine struck out 10, surrendered just one walk and held the Patriots to just a single hit.

Offensively, freshman Mattie Morris knocked in three RBIs in her first varsity action while going 1 for 4 at the plate. Racheal Eplee posted a 2-for-3 night while Lynley Price had a pair of hits in four plate appearances. Price also caught Bodine’s one-hitter.

It took the Monticello offense a few innings to get in gear, but the Mustangs scored a pair of runs in the third and tacked on three more in the sixth. Monticello rang up nine total hits as a team.

Emily McAllister pitched for Albemarle.

Monticello hosts Albemarle next Tuesday in a re-match at 5 p.m.
