Mountaineers continue to roll on the gridiron

For the second straight week, it was about the defense for Madison County. The Mountaineers fended off a scrappy Stonewall Jackson (Quicksburg) team on Friday, 19-8.

After Madison opened with with a 28-yard field goal from Stephen Dixon, the Generals answered back with a touchdown and 2-point conversion to take a 5-point lead. That was it for Stonewall though, as the Mountaineers locked down and scored the game’s final 16 points.

With Bradley Meadows and Terez Terrell leading the way with 11 tackles each, and Andrew Alexander chipping in nine of his own, Madison’s toughest test from the General offense came on a fourth and goal on the last play of the half with the defense holding up.

On the other side of the ball, Ralph Yates excelled in the backfield with 133 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Dustin Farmer finished with 206 yards passing with a touchdown, while also adding 28 rushing yards on eight touches.  Farmer and Warren continue be one of the area’s most reliable and dangerous arial connections with the junior Warren hauling in five of the sophomore’s passes for 116 yards. Rashad Bolden caught two passes for 26 yards and brought in the Mountaineers’ only passing scoring strikeions

The Mountaineeers (5-1) get a bye week after taking their fourth straight contest. They will host their first Bull-Run District match of the season on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
