Albemarle girls tennis team has surrendered just one match to any of their Commonwealth District opponents and it happened against Massaponax a month ago. On Tuesday evening, the Patriots made sure the Panthers did not pull off that feat twice as they rolled to a 9-0 sweep.
Playing in the number two spot, Tori Kuhn avenged her loss last go around and picked up a 10-5 win. All six Albemarle singles matches were decided by five or more points including a 10-0 win by Megan Napolitano at the top of the ladder.
The Patriots received their toughest test in their third doubles match as Elise Lord and Summer Canton fought through a tiebreaker to win 11-10 (7-4). The duo fought back from 8-9 with Canton serving through a match point situation before she and her teammate surged back.
“I have confidence in my serve,” Canton said. “So I just tried not to think about the score and trust my swing. We’ll take it but I did hold my breath for a bit”
Albemarle (9-1, 8-0) travels to Stafford on Thursday at 5 p.m.
