Patriots stay undefeated in Commonwealth play

Albemarle’s district wins aren’t coming easy this season, but they’re holding tight to every one they can grab.

Albemarle edged Riverbend on the road for yet another 3-2, five-game victory.

Jessie Block set the table all night for Albemarle with a whopping 53 assists while Stephanie Strauss and Megan Napolitano crushed 25 and 24 kills respectively. Kelley Barker also got into double digits with a 10-kill performance.

Sarah Terlesky led the defensive effort with 17 digs.

Albemarle jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of 25-17 victories.  Riverbend bounced back with a victory in game three, then won game four as well.

The Patriots righted the ship after that though, jumping out to a 7-3 lead before the game see-sawed back to a tie at 8-8. Strauss an Napolitano both put together back-to-back kills to put Albemarle in control for a 15-12 victory and the match.

Albemarle holds onto the Commonwealth’s first place spot with the win, moving to 10-3 overall and 6-0 in district on the season. Brooke Point tackles Albemarle next in a home game for the Pats at 7 p.m.
