STAB baseball knocks off Woodberry

St. Anne’s-Belfield baseball knocked off t Woodberry Forest 5-1 Wednesday behind Alex Markopoulos’ 4-for-4 night at the plate and a complete game effort from Mark Moore on the mound.

Moore struck out three and scattered six hits and walked just one batter in seven innings of work and behind him the Saints played error free baseball.

Markopoulos ripped a pair of doubles on the day while Ethan DeLaurier hit a two-run home run in the fourth to push the STAB lead to 4-1 over the Tigers. Keshawn West scored on the DeLaurier blast and also had a triple.

Woodberry couldn’t scratch out more than its first inning run despite a 3-for-3 day from John Harris and doubles from Will McAdams and Benton Copeland. Moore managed to clamp down on the Tigers and gave away very few free baserunners.

The Saints will close out the regular season against Trinity Episcopal at home Friday while Woodberry travels to Collegiate the same night. The Tigers moved up to No. 10 in the state rankings at the start of this week but have dropped three straight now.
