Tyrell’s huge day sparks Woodberry past Flint Hill

It’s been a pretty good couple of weeks for Nathaniel Tyrell.

A week after a first quarter interception return for a touchdown helped ignite Woodberry to a victory over Paul VI, Tyrell took a pair of punts and another interception to the house as the Tigers rolled 45-14 past Flint Hill on the road.

Tyrell struck first in the second quarter, taking one punt 71 yards for a score and another 45 yards to put Woodberry up 21-0.

He eventually wrapped his big plays for the day with a 40-yard return for a pick six that put the Tigers ahead 45-0.

While Tyrell was lighting the scoreboard up, the Tigers’ offense got back into gear after last week’s turnover-marred win over Paul VI. H.T. Minor piled up 109 yards on 15 carries while James Hewell provided the power with 53 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Hunter Etheridge also rushed for a score and picked up 18 yards. Etheridge didn’t have to throw much but was efficient when he did, going 4-for-7 for 42 yards. Backup signal-caller Lindell Stone through the first touchdown of his Woodberry career and went 3-for-4 for 79 yards.

Patrick Shea had a 55-yard catch from Stone and Zach Roderick hauled in Stone’s touchdown pass on a 13-yard reception. Brandon Walker had a pair of catches for 22 yards.

Woodberry hits the road again next week for a critical Prep League showdown against Collegiate.
