Update from Fargo: Woodberry’s Pickett earns All-American honors, Morris goes 1-1

Wrestling in the 145 pound weight class, Woodberry Forest’s Duke Pickett won his first three matches at the ASICS National Freestyle Championships. Pickett, a rising senior, first picked up a win over Jarred Pratt of New Mexico before going on to beat Michael Alpert of Florida in his first day on the mat.

The following day, Pickett won his third match when he upset top seeded Dylan Ness, the Oustanding Wrestler from the Greco-Roman tournament earlier in the week and future Minnesota Gopher. The victory earned Pickett All-American honors as it guaranteed a top-8 finish. However, he lost his in the quarter finals but was able to place 7th.

Albemarle’s Zach Morris dropped his first match to Daniel Breit from Missouri but rebounded to beat Michael Hummer out of Indiana. Morris wrestles at 152 pounds.
