VHSL Wrestling Day One Recap

Here’s a rundown of where local wrestlers in the VHSL Class 2, 3, 4 and 5 state tournaments are sitting after day one.

Class 5

Albemarle’s Tufan Khalilov falls in the second round of consolations after winning his first round consolation match with a pin.

Class 4

Orange’s Waylon Rogers at 106 pounds advances to state semifinals with a tech fall in round one and a pin in the quarterfinals.

Orange’s Justin Jones at 113 pounds advances to state semifinals after pins in the first round and the quarterfinals.

Orange’s Solo Mthethwa at 175 pounds is in the state semifinals after a first round pin and a 5-0 decision in the state quarterfinals.

Orange’s Dominic Turner fought his way back in the consolation bracket and

Orange’s Manley Nalls, Aidan Sliger, Sophia Slaughter, Sam Sciabbarrasi, Gavin Meredith and Kaden Burke falls in the first round of consolations. Braiden Swift won his first round match but dropped the state quarterfinal match and his first consolation match.

Louisa County’s Luke Rowan is in the state semifinals after a pin and a 14-8 quarterfinal decision. Blake White, Bryan Rodriguez, Lucas Phelps, Robert Tovornik, Kase Casazza, Tanner Painting and Lawton Rowan have been eliminated.

Western’s Will Grisdale, Lucas Silva, Cole McGinty, Thomas Warren, Owen Townsend and Parker Vorhees have all been knocked out of contention.

Class 3

Goochland’s Patrick Harlow is in the state semifinals at 215 pounds after a 9-8 first round decision and a state quarterfinal pin. Jordan Duke, Noah Daniel, Cannen Harlow, Ethan Winter and Dyson Evans have all been eliminated.

Charlottesville’s Walter Pilkey at 132 pounds and Xavier Castaneda at 157 pounds are both still alive in the consolation bracket. They’ll wrestle for a spot on the podium Saturday.

William Monroe’s Jason Lamb, Ashton Durham and Marquise Brock have all been eliminated.

Fluvanna’s Aiden Valentine, Alex Olivia and Samuel Stoltz have all been elminiated.

Class 2

Madison’s Shawn Curtis at 175 pounds advanced to the state semifinals with a 10-2 major decision in the state quarterfinals. The Mountaineers’ Hunter Watson, Joel Bishop, Joshua Lamb, Keith Gerhar, Matthew Sacra and Ian Bard have all been elminated.
