Ward’s no-hitter sparks Fluvanna baseball past Powhatan

Fluvanna County baseball picked up a solid road win Tuesday, rolling 10-0 behind a seven-inning no-hitter by junior Kevin Ward.

Ward struck out seven and walked three in the victory over the Indians that pushed Fluvanna to 14-2 on the season. Ward leaned on his defense and pitched to contact as he’s artfully done over the last few years, inducing six groundouts and another eight flyouts.

Ward was working with a lead from the moment he stepped on the mound as the Flucos scored in the first to go up 1-0, then tacked on four more runs in the third for a 5-0 lead. Fluvanna kept scoring, notching two more in the fifth, another in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Jacob Critzer led that offensive attack and went 3-for-4 with two home runs for three total RBI. Andrew Ward also knocked one out and notched two RBI and two runs on the night. Cameron Shields went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI while Mason Gross knocked in two runs while going 2-for-5. Ryan Groome went 3-for-5 with a triple and scored twice.John Rittenhouse also chipped in an RBI.

The Flucos are scheduled to host Albemarle Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
