Western Albemarle baseball shuts out Goochland

Western Albemarle baseball’s Ben Winslow keeps mowing batters down and the Warriors keep picking up wins.

The Warriors (3-0) went on the road and beat Goochland 11-0 Tuesday night, with Winslow striking out 11 in just five-innings of the game that reached the run-rule in the fifth when catcher James Meenan blasted a three-run home run.

Western led 1-0 at the end of the first after Luke Craytor knocked in Cooper Nelson, but the Warriors blew it open in the second when Tommy Williams had a two-RBI single to score Andrew Barrese and Isaac Sumpter and then walks stacked up for Goochland and a Meenan single helped score another run.

Meenan had three hits on the night including the homer and a double while Williams had two hits. Craytor and Winslow each had doubles at the plate as well, with Craytor finishing with three RBI and Winslow adding one of his own. Brendan Quigley had his first hit of the season.

The Warriors are scheduled to host Charlottesville Thursday night while Goochland will return to action after spring break when they travel to Fluvanna April 11.
