Western boys swim breaks 27-year old record at Woodberry

Western Albemarle boys swimming is locked in this year. They rolled to a Ben Hair title and they’ve got their sights set on a state title repeat.

The Warriors aren’t waiting until states to make a big splash though.

Western’s 200-yard freestyle relay squad of August Lamb, Tyce Winter, Jason Heilman and Noah Hargrove ripped off a 1.26.65 at Woodberry Forest over the weekend, smashing a pool record set by Mercersburg High of Pennsylvania back in 1991. The time was just a half second under the Class 3 state record too. Western could take aim at that record come state meet time. The swim was an improvement over the quartet’s previous seed time of 1:26.72.

The Warriors picked up wins over Woodberry Forest, Trinity Episocpal and Trinity Christian in the meet that was scored like a dual. The Western girls beat Trinity Episcopal and Trinity Christian.
