Western volleyball falls in Region 3A West quarterfinals

Facing a challenging opponent in the Region 3A West quarterfinals, Western Albemarle threw everything it had at Cave Spring Monday night in Roanoke.

In turn, the Warriors pushed Cave Spring nearly to the brink, but couldn’t come up with the win, falling 3-1.

The Warriors lost the opening game 25-15 but bounced back in the second game to win 25-20 before falling 25-21 in game four and a heartbreaking 26-24 in game four.

Erin Farina triggered the offense with 39 assists and was savvy on the attack as well with seven kills of her own while also chipping in three aces. Hannah Miles, Sienna Kellum and Kelsey Grove did the heavy lifting defensively with 21, 13 and 13 digs respectively.

Olivia Nichols finished with three blocks and a couple of aces as well as seven digs. Christina Blount chipped in seven digs as well while Kellum had three aces and Elissa Simpson had two aces.

The Warriors’ season ends with the loss to Cave Spring. Western was the runner-up in Conference 29 to Spotswood.
