Williams’ serving push Monticello past Covenant

After falling straight sets to Western Albemarle last week, Monticello volleyball needed to bounce back in a big way.

Mariah Williams’ serve nearly provided that reversal on its own.

The Mustangs rolled 3-0 over Covenant Monday night at home, giving Monticello a little rhythm heading into another Jefferson District battle Tuesday with Fluvanna County.

Williams unleashed an incredible 15 aces, notching an ace on nearly half of her serve attempts. The setter then added 16 assists while orchestrating the offense.

Monticello rolled 25-14, 25-6 and 25-12 against the Eagles, who were missing a few key components.

Trystam Carr had five aces herself (and led the Mustangs with four digs) while Emily Evans and Sydney Larese finished with two each. Charlotte Devine led the Monticello attack with six kills while Molly Relken and Brittany Scott checked in with five and four kills respectively.

Monticello now battles Fluvanna County at home Tuesday night.
