If any of those “Landon Wilson is just a passer arguments” were still floating around after his impressive spring, it’s probably best to retire them now. Louisa’s quarterback heard the whispers as a freshman and if spring didn’t erase them, Friday night’s 30-0 win over Huguenot proved they’re now completely unfounded.
Wilson scored four touchdowns on the ground and rushed for 138 yards on 15 carries for the Lions, who gained 292 yards on the ground as a team on the ground with Jordan Smith also piling up 108 yards on 15 touches. The Lions averaged 6.2 yards per carry as a squad, with that balanced attack leading the way.
Meanwhile, the Louisa defense absolutely suffocated Huguenot, holding them to just 59 yards of total offense and three first downs. The Lions were efficient too, allowing just two third down conversions out of 11 attempts and nothing on fourth down as Huguenot went 0-for-3 on fourth.
Wilson scored from a yard out in the first quarter to get things going for the Louisa offense, then raced in from 15 yards out to push the lead to 13-0. He then powered his way in from eight yards out in the second for a 20-0 halftime lead. After a slow third quarter, Caden Lundy hit a 29-yard field goal and then Wilson capped his own night with a 45-yard touchdown run.
Stephen Dean led the Louisa receivers with one catch for 20 yards. Wilson threw for 28 yards on 4-for-11 passing. Austin Talley had six carries for 37 yards on the ground and Maleke Huntington had two fumble recoveries on defense.
The Lions now turn their attention to the annual Big Cat Classic where they’ll square off with Courtland.
