Woodberry football rolls past Trinity Episcopal

Woodberry Forest rolled out a two-headed monster on offense Saturday with Lindell Stone through the air and Evans Riviere in the Tigers’ 56-20 victory over the Titans of Trinity Episcopal.

Stone broke the 2,000-yard mark in passing yards for the season with 2,219 after Saturday’s game where he put together a 231-yard, four touchdown day on 15-for-23 through the air. Riviere contributed 219 yards on 25 carries with one touchdown.

Woodberry spread the wealth with eight different players accounting for touchdowns.

Stone got the Tigers started with a short pass to Thomas Radke midway through the first quarter followed by two scores on the ground by Jameel Wilson and Riviere.

Just before the half, Trinity quarterback Blake Bowen found six-foot-four wide receiver Trevion Armstrong in the endzone to keep the Titans within striking distance.

The Tigers erased that momentum though when Michael Davenport ripped off a 97-yard kick return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff. Davenport’s return started a streak of 21 unanswered points, locking in the Tigers’ win.

Armstrong ended the streak and added to his tally with a one-yard touchdown catch making it 35-14 at the close of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as the Tigers put up 21 more points. Trinity wide receiver Jake Brown caught a 28-yard pass from Bowen putting more points on the board for the Titans. However Woodberry speedster Holden Fockler blocked the extra point try to put the icing on the cake for the Tigers.

The Tigers will play their third of four straightRichmond-based schools away to Benedictine (7-0). Meanwhile the Titans will stay at home to take on St. Christopher’s (5-2) next Saturday.
