Woodberry wins Prep League

For the third straight season, the Woodberry Forest football team can head into “the game” against Episcopal knowing that they are the champions of the Prep League.

The Tigers do not participate in the VISAA Division 1 postseason, but if they did, they’d have earned the top seed as they topped St. Christopher’s on the road with a dominating second half performance from running back Jeff Smith in a 31-16 win.

With just a 1-point lead heading into the third quarter, Woodberry outscored the host 21-7 in the second half behind two lengthy Smith runs of 50 and 57 yards and a quarterback keeper from Heys McMath.

Smith also had a 3-yard score in the first quarter to round out his day with nine touches for 123 yards and three scores.

The Tigers’ (7-1, 3-0) next game this Friday was cancelled. They will finish their season at home against Episcopal in the oldest high school football rivalry in Virginia on Saturday November 13th at 2 p.m.
