Albemarle field hockey shuts out STAB

Albemarle field hockey’s Caroline Hughlett has been a playmaker for the Patriots since she stepped on the field as a freshman. But even for a player used to being involved in scoring plays in someway shape or form, Tuesday was a pretty impressive day.

Hughlett, a junior, dished out four assists Tuesday afternoon, assisting on all four goals in the Patriots’ 4-0 shutout over St. Anne’s-Belfield. Whether it was in the run of play or on short corners, Hughlett just kept finding ways to find teammates throughout the match.

Hughlett’s sister Courtney Hughlett finished off her first assist with a first quarter goal that gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Then Sydney Alexander scored her first of two goals with a finish on a short corner after Caroline Hughlett drove it toward the right post after recieving the injection pass.

Alexander added her second in the third quarter before Sam Sanford made it 4-0 Patriots. Courtney Elhart made five saves in goal for the Patriots and STAB’s keeper Chloe Miller made five saves of her own.

The Patriots will try and keep things rolling Thursday with a clash against E.C. Glass while STAB will look to bounce back against St. Gertrude Friday on the road.
