Covenant’s volleyball team may be young, but the Eagles are getting off on the right foot early this year.

The Eagles picked up their first win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of St. Anne’s-Belfield Friday afternoon.

Covenant got a big boost from a number of freshmen, with Cara Hamil’s 12 kills and 10 digs leading the way while fellow ninth grader London Constant rang up 21 assists to lead in that category.

Another freshman, Delaney Poindexter, chipped in with seven kills and three aces while yet another ninth grader, Peyton Garber, had a team-high four aces and tied Hamil for the team-high with 10 digs.

Eighth grader Kerrigan Poindexter also got in on the act with three kills  for the Eagles.

Covenant will square off with Eastern Mennonite Thursday at 6 p.m. on the road next week.
