Fast Start: Albemarle boys lacrosse jumps out early, beats Monticello

Albemarle’s boys lacrosse team didn’t waste much time getting going Tuesday night against Monticello in a cross-county Jefferson District clash.

 

The Patriots poured in seven goals in the first quarter to take a huge lead en route to a 14-1 victory over the Mustangs.

 

Jake King led the Patriots with two gaols and two assists while Ryder Miestrell notched a hat trick. Brock Stroud, Ryan Katstra and Kevin Myers each scored two goals with Stroud also chipping in an assist. Owen Tighe and Cooper Hann had a goal and an assist each while Peter Kronebusch had one goal and Damarion Cowan had an assist.

 

Albemarle held a sizeable 34-15 advantage on ground balls and on the face-off with a 13-5 lead there. The Patriots put 24 of their 31 shots on goal.

 

In the cage, Aidan Taffe stonewalled Monticello with 10 saves on the Mustangs’ 14 shots on goal. Monticello scratched out a fourth quarter goal from Lucas Garett to stave off a shutout, with Jacob Messinger assisting. Tyler Cowgill finished with eight saves for Monticello while facing a barrage of shots by Albemarle.
