Final Four Bound: Woodberry Forest boys soccer advances to state semis

Woodberry Forest boys soccer is headed to the state final four.

With a pair of goals from Robbie Handelsman Tuesday, the Tigers beat St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes in the VISAA state quarterfinals 2-0.

The Tigers, the No. 3 seed in the state tournament, went to work after the break after enduring a scoreless first half against a team they hammered 5-0 earlier this season. Handelsman’s first goal came on a high, arcing cross that he finished off with a brilliant header. The second came when Samuel Crosby pushed it ahead and Handelsman drove directly at the SSSA keeper before chipping it to his right and finishing at the last second.

With the win, the Tigers advance to the state semifinals where they’ll face No. 2-seeded Cape Henry at 5:30 Wednesday afternoon.

No. 1 Collegiate and No. 4 St. Christopher’s will lock up in the other semifinal.
