Louisa County’s wrestling team finally got a chance to step on the mat this year after a serious amount of preparation and effort went into making even getting on the mat possible.

With two mats switching between weight classes and with trainers while coaches sterilized the unused surface and with no traditional handshakes or raising the hand of the victor, the Lions picked up a 33-25 victory over Goochland at home Saturday.

After a trio of forfeits opened the match including Louisa wins by Owen Grslick and Gia Ciotola, Goochland’s John Summit edged Louisa’s Gavin Greslick in a hard fought 12-8 match. Louisa’s Kasey Casazza snagged a win over Reece Vincent at 138 pounds to push the Lions’ advantage to 15-6 before Goochland answered with a pin from Max Moreno at 145 pounds. The Lions’ Tanner Painting then picked up a pin at 152 pounds and Lawton Rowan won at 160 pounds and Alex Bradford snagged a pin at 170.

Sophomore Quinton Walsh snagged a pin at 195 pounds. Goochland picked up another forfeit win from Ayden Doczi at heavyweight, but it wasn’t enough for the Bulldogs to overcome Louisa’s lead.
