Monroe’s Woolford no-hits Warren County on senior night

It was senior night for William Monroe softball, and the Dragons’ senior pitcher Mara Woolford made sure that nothing spoiled her senior night against Warren County.

Woolford mowed through the Warren County lineup all night and threw a seven-inning no-hitter, striking out eight while allowing just two walks in a dominant performance. Her work in the circle sparked the Dragons to a 9-0 win.

Woolford got some serious offensive help from fellow senior Rachel Hill who went 3-for-3 at the plate, knocked in two runs and scored three runs and finished just a home run short of the cycle on the night. Hill tripled in the first and then doubles in the bottom of the third, giving the Dragons a big offensive spark and Woolford a cushion for the majority of the game.

Monroe led 3-0 at the end of the first and extended that lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third. Avery Shifflett went 2-for-4 on the night including a double and knocked in a run while senior Savannah Meade went 1-for-3 and scored. Kendyll Eddins, Kara Baker-Jones, Taylor Mallory each knocked in a run.

The Dragons will look to keep things rolling when they host Brentsville Friday night.
