For the first time since 2012, Fork Union’s track team is back on top of the outdoor heap.
A week after winning the Prep League title, the Blue Devilsm who’ve won 23 state outdoor track titles in the program’s history, rang up 142 points to outpace league rival and runner-up St. Christopher’s, who scored 109 points.
Ebruba Etta, Julian Yescas and R.C. Wallbrook all three double dipped on event titles to give Fork Union a big charge in the scoring column. Etta won the 100 in 10.74 seconds and the 400 in 49.21 while also grabbing second in the 200, scoring the third-most individual points behind St. Chris’ Elby Omohundro and Frank Royal. Etta’s 28 points would’ve left him tied for eighth as a team on his own.
Yescas swept the 1600 and 3200-meter titles and Wallbrook won both the 110 and 300 hurdles. Beyond that, the multi-discipline athletes took over. Will Stupalsky scored in four different events, winning the discus, taking fifth in the 300 hurdles and third in both the long and triple jump. Stupalsky scored 26 total points, fifth most in the meet. Harrison Duncan took third in the 110 hurdles, fourth in the 300 hurdles, sixth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Logan Justice took fifth in the 400 and eighth in the 200.
Nathan Disbrow took fifth in the high jump, Daniel Reynolds seventh in the 200, William Lot seventh in the 400 and Abdur Dasher took sixth in the triple jump. Iosefa Pua’auli took eighth in the shot put.
In the relays, Fork Union took third in the 4×100, fifth in the 4×400 and seventh in the 4×800.
Woodberry Forest finished fifth as a team with 48 points, led by runner-up finishes by Max Johns in the high jump and Kyle Kauffman in the pole vault. Riley Fletcher had a big day in the distance events, taking second in the 3200 and third in the 1600. R.J. Ross took seventh in the triple and eighth in the 300. Khalid Thomas took eighth in the 100 and 10th in the 200 while Baron Becker placed third in the long jump. Dequece Carter took fourth in the triple jump and Jack Barnes was seventh in the discus.
STAB’s 4×800 team took eighth while Hewson Duffy finished fourth in the 800 and Victor Ji took eighth in the 3200.
For Blue Ridge, Souley Sylla took seventh in the 300 hurdles, Frank Germain took eighth in the 110 hurdles and K.T. Telima took eighth in the triple. Andy Nwaoko took ninth in the 200.
Covenant’s Justin Bryan finished eighth in the 3200.
In VISAA’s Division II, Tandem Friends’ 4×800 team finished as the state runner-up. Luke Van der Plujm took ninth in the 800 individually.
