Quick Work: Lam helps push William Monroe into region semis

With Brady Lam absolutely cooking Friday night, William Monroe boys basketball rolled 87-48 past Culpeper in the Region 3B quarterfinals.

Lam poured in 33 points and hauled in 17 rebounds for a monster double double and threw in three assists for good measure. The Blue Devils simply couldn’t find an answer for Lam all night and when they did manage to get the ball out of his hands, Tucker Shifflett was causing his own dose of damage.

Shifflett scored 19 points and had eight boards and six assists.

William Monroe trailed 11-10 at the end of the first, but by halftime they were up 33-19 and in control of the contest.

The Dragons also got 10 points and three assists from Parker Hildebrand and nine points and six boards from Emannuel Jackson. Davien Griffith came up with six points and eight boards.

Culpeper answered largely with 37 points from senior Nathan Amos. The rest of the Blue Devils’ roster accounted for just 11 points.

William Monroe will travel north to take on Meridian High Tuesday night in the region semifinals with a state tournament berth on the line. They’ll get a shot at it with a bit of potential revenge also thrown in. The Mustangs swept the Dragons in the regular season, most recently winning 54-46 to close out the regular season.
