STAB boys knock off Miller in overtime behind 28 from Mallory

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s boys basketball team had already come awfully close to a big road win earlier this year when the Saints nearly knocked off basketball power Word of God Christian Academy in North Carolina. Then they came close again last Friday in a narrow loss to Bullis in Maryland and Saturday in a close loss to Bishop O’Connell as the Saints push through a challenging schedule.

Tuesday night though, STAB got its first statement road win with a 65-64 overtime victory over Miller School in Crozet, withstanding a strong start by the Mavericks and an Eli DeLaurier three that sent the game to overtime.

Chance Mallory carried the Saints at times and poured in 28 points while snagging seven rebounds and dishing out five assists. Carter Lang scored 16 points and hauled in nine rebounds on the night while battling it out with fellow highly regarded big man DeLaurier throughout.

Desmond Roberts stepped up in a big way with 13 points, four boards and two assists while Elijah Wells knocked down a critical 3-pointer.

Miller got 19 points, four rebounds and two blocks from Austin Ball, who had an electric first half while scoring 16 of his 19. Mallory notched 17 of his 28 before the break as the defenses tightened up in the second half.

Jordan Horne scored 14 and had three assists and two steals for the Mavericks while Eli DeLaurier finished with 11 points, six assists and five boards.

The Saints head to Maryland again this weekend where they’ll face Landon and Atlanta’s Mount Vernon while the Mavericks will face Rosedale Christian on Saturday.
