Title Obtained: Madison County boys win Bull Run championship

Madison County’s boys basketball team knew it had its work cut out for them. The Mountaineers and Strasburg split their two regular season clashes, so Friday’s battle for a Bull Run championship was a lock to be an intense one.

The Mountaineers proved up to the task though and beat the Rams 52-42 to win the Bull Run district title and lock up the No. 2 seed in the Region 2B tournament.

Bryce Breeden led Madison with 21 points in the win. He went 7-for-14 from the field in the win. Billy Acton complemented Breeden’s work on the outside with a workmanlike effort underneath, putting together a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Acton was particularly efficient, hitting five of his seven attempts.

Seth McLearen scored nine points, dished out three assists and two rebounds. Breeden notched four rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

The Mountaineers will host 7th-seeded Stuarts Draft Tuesday in the region quarterfinals.
