STAB girls drop St. Catherine’s

St. Anne’s-Belfield girls basketball still hasn’t played a home game since the 2019-2020 season, but the Saints are off to a strong start on the road. After beating Catholic before Thanksgiving break, the Saints sent a message to the rest of the League of Independent Schools Thursday night with an 89-48 blowout win over St. Catherine’s.

Kymora Johnson lit it up from the jump, scoring 13 first quarter points en route to a 32-point outing where the junior guard also dished out seven assists and swiped six steals. That performance continues her electric start to the year. She poured in a career-high 34 points in the season opener against Catholic.

With Olivia Wagner, who scored 12 against Catholic, banged up early in the game, Sabrina Lewis and Khamare Steppe elevated their games and put together huge performances. Lewis scored 22 points and had five assists while Steppe posted a double double with 12 points and 10 boards.

The Saints will take on Episcopal Friday afternoon at Flint Hill in a tournament and play another game Saturday in that tournament before they play their home opener Tuesday night against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.
