Madison County golf wins Region 2B championship

Madison County’s golf team won its first ever Region 2B championship Monday afternoon at the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg, carding a 337 as a team to wrap up the championship and advance to the Class 2 state tournament. 

 

Jackson Taylor led the way for the Mountaineers with a 78, good to tie for individual champion honors with Stuarts Draft’s Nicholas Jones. 

 

Cai Clark put together an 81, good for third place individually to bolster the effort and James Tanner scored an 85 while Tucker Brockman finished with a 93 to round out the Mountaineers’ championship squad. Dean Breeden’s 95 and Colton Haney’s 103 were the other scores for Madison. 

 

Taylor and Clark earned first team All-Region honors while Tanner and Brockman picked up second team nods. 

 

Mountain View finished second in the region with a 348 and Draft took third with a 387. 

 

The Mountaineers will compete October 12 at the Class 2 state championships at the Olde Mill Golf Course in Laurel Fork.
