Western won its fifth-straight state championship Thursday morning with its third-straight sweep of a tournament opponent, a 5-0 victory over Hanover.
Western beat Rock Ridge 5-0 in the semifinals and knocked off perhaps its stiffest competition Blacksburg 5-0 Monday in the state semifinals.
The Warriors rolled Thursday in Newport News with Tobin Yates winning 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Luke Kielbasa winning 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 singles, Brader Eby winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, Wade Sturman winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 and Tanner Seagraves winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Charlie Miller won his first set 7-5 at No. 6 singles and was in a dogfight when the Warriors clinched the match.
Yates won his third team title after contributing as a sub during the state quarters and semis in the 2019 title run as a freshman while Miller wrapped up his first title while playing in the top six and third of his career as part of the squad.
With a junior, two freshmen and a sophomore from the top six returning, the stage is set for potentially more titles from the Warriors to add to this current string of success.
More dominance is almost surely on the horizon.
