In front of an intense sellout home crowd facing Charlottesville Friday night, Albemarle knew it was going to have its hands full with the Black Knights’ often prolific offense.
They did, but the Patriots prevailed with some hot shooting from Ben Wesson and a balanced offensive effort of their own to pick up a 71-58 win.
The win completed a bounce back week for the Patriots with wins over Louisa and Albemarle after the Patriots lost to Western Albemarle last Friday.
Wesson finished with 19 points, knocking down five 3-pointers while also grabbing six boards. Carter Wesson had 13 points and four rebounds and Christian Humes filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Polo Hill chipped in nine points and La’mari Parler had eight points and four boards.
The Black Knights led 34-32 at the break, but Albemarle flipped the script from down two to up nine in the third quarter sparked by Hill scoring six of his nine and Wesson knocking down a pair of 3-pointers. Albemarle kept the Black Knights at arm’s length from there.
Aiden Yates and Luka Matic each posted 15 points while Keyshawn Hill had 13 points and six rebounds.
With Fluvanna’s win over Western earlier this week, Albemarle still has a path to an outright Jefferson District title. The Patriots travel to Fluvanna Tuesday in a critical district clash. Charlottesville will host Goochland the same night.
